Double Check Your Ticket: A TMNT Review

Tim Schlueter

It’s not the Shawshank Redemption. This brilliant observation has apparently come as a surprise to many of my fellow movie goers who may have not noticed that their ticket read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (not starring Morgan Freeman or Tim Robbins). When I entered the theater on opening night I was 8 years old again. When I was a kid I did not know what CGI was, who Megan Fox is, and certainly didn’t understand the concept of character development. What I did understand was that ninjas were cool and I too loved pizza. Now it is time for a new generation of kids to enjoy the TMNT like I did. It would have have been a travesty if the movie had been 3 hours long, had a complicated plot with a mind-blowing twist, and spent the first hour “developing the characters.” If it had maybe it would have gotten an Oscar nomination but I can tell you the two young boys sitting behind me in the theater would have left disappointed. Instead they left the theater practicing ninja moves and grinning ear to ear. That folks is what this movie is all about. If you want to see 100 minutes of Raph, Leo, Mikey, and Don eating pizza, cracking jokes, beatboxing in an elevator, and kicking ass go see this movie. Forget about your bills, work, and the Minnesota Twins and remember what its like to get home from school turn on the old bubble screen TV and watch your favorite turtles kick some Foot Clan butt. So readers stay radical. Cowabunga dudes.
